History Fact: The Shuswap/Okanagan Railway was constructed in 1891 and one year later consisted of a lone box car. The province’s first spur line off the C.P.R. and it ran between Sicamous, Grindrod and Armstrong. Early Spallumcheen rancher and government agent Moses Lumby was the driving force behind the effort to build the railroad. The Shuswap Okanagan Railway contributed largely to the settlement in the region and throughout the province.
